Sarah Andréa Tosques was born and lives in Montreal, Canada. She came to Iceland to participate in artist-in-residencies in Skagaströnd and in Reykjavik. Sarah’s sculptures, collages and videos investigate behaviours normalized in our pop-cultural influenced society. Humour is used as a vehicle to exaggerate and ridicule these manifestations.

"As a pre-teen, my bedroom walls were obsessively wallpapered with teen pop idols I worshipped. This series of work was based on the peculiarity of idolizing and adoring imaginary characters created through appropriately marketed individuals. Tabloids and gossip magazines seem to be voyeuristic adult versions of this celebrity curiosity as escapist behaviour. As an attempt to fulfill and exaggerate these unrealistic fantasies, I investigated this phenomenon by reverting to the make-shift collages reminiscent of those created by teenagers using cut-out imagery from magazines and using everyday arts and crafts materials such as markers, glitter-glue, candy cups and fur to create a parade of “idols”."
The gallery is open from 9 - 17 during weekdays. Admission is free.
