Creative summer groups

Creative summer groups in Hitt Húsið is an opportunity for young, artistic people of Reykjavik to spend their summer creating art of all kinds.  Both individuals and groups can apply and get funded in the form of a salary for 8 weeks during summer.  The projects and groups can be very diverse and aim to brighten up Reykjavik over the summer, since the sun rarely seems to want to do that for us.  Many of Reykjavík’s top artists have started out with the Hitt Húsið art groups.  Reykjavík is the city where everything is possible and you never know when you’ll find yourself on a date with the Muses.

How do I apply?

Legal residents of Reykjavík in the age of 17-25 can apply for the art groups.  Groups or individuals can get support in form of a salary for 8 weeks.  The application must include:

  • A thorough description of the project, it’s scale and goals.
  • A schedule and task overview.
  • Financial estimate.
  • Information on the participants in the project and one contact person.

Applications were to be delivered to Hitt Húsið in hard copies before 29th of March.  Applicants must also apply online through Reykjavik city.  Please note that the support is only in the form of a salary, no other financial support is granted by Reykjavík (such as for travel, material or other cost).

The processing of applications

A jury of 4 people go over the applications.  The jury consists of the head of the cultural department, the CEO of Hitt Húsið, a representative of the Icelandic Academy of the Arts and one person from cultural sector.
The jury takes following things into consideration:
  • Goals, schedule and project plan.
  • The originality of the idea.
  • The social scale of the project.
  • The experience of the applicants.
  • The financial estimate, -that the project is fully funded.
  • Diversity in the projects chosen, all art-forms represented.
  • The quality of the application.

Please note that participation in the common schedule of the art groups is a requirement.  The common schedule includes the Independance Day (17th of June), the Cultural Night of Reykjavík and Hitt Húsið Friday Festivals.

The Street Theatre 2015

Hitt Húsið Street Theatre will transform the streets and squares of Reykjavík into vibrant and lively places this summer


The goal of the Blue-Eyed Wraith is to create a series of small dance shows that play with the audience’s emotions.
